Search Engine Optimization Questions

Q. Why is SEO important to my website?

A. Over 90% of Internet users are looking to purchase a product or service everyday. Studies have shown that Internet buyers are more than 10 times likely to buy a product after finding a site through a search engine over all other methods of advertising. Utilizing SEO will help achieve search engine rankings that will direct traffic to your site.

Q.What is a "tracking phone number" and do I have to use it?

A. No you don’t need to use a unique phone number that we assign to your business. Remember; Return on investment is what is most important to you. You want to know that the money you are spending converts a passive shopper to active lead. Our SEO and SEM programs have the ability to track conversion points even if that conversion point is a telephone call. We are able to provide recorded conversations of the leads that we generate. You can use this tool to track your ROI and train your staff on how to close a sale. We do this by pasting a tracking phone number into an exact duplicate of your web site (what we call a proxy web site) to track the number of calls we generate for your business. This tracking phone number doesn’t appear on your regular web site and it doesn’t interfere with any other online marketing you might choose to do.

Q. Will changes have to be made on our site?

A. Depending on your current layout, it is possible that there will be modifications to your site when starting an SEO package. However, most of the changes are done to the source code and body copy. Additional site recommendations may be made by one of our SEO specialists.

Q. How do you choose our keyword phrases?

A. We will work with you to develop your list of keywords through site analysis, position reports, keyword tools, and both our experience and your knowledge of your website. Our keyword tools will generate a list of the most highly-searched terms within your industry. We will then work with you to refine and compile this list in a way that will best suit your website.

Q. How long will it take for my page to rank?

A. Typically it takes anywhere from six weeks to six months before recently made changes are picked up by the search engines.

Q. Why do I have to upload the Google and Yahoo verification files?

A. By uploading the Google and Yahoo verification files, our search engine optimization analysts can see "behind the scenes" data on your website. The verification file also provides other benefits, such as the ability to submit a sitemap.xml to the search engines, see which links are good or bad, and monitor for problems with your website.

Q. Why do I have to upload a sitemap.xml file?

A. The sitemap.xml file provides the search engines with a list of the pages on your site. This ensures that the map of your website is complete and increases the authenticity of the website.

Q. Which search engines and directories do you focus on?

A. We focus on the major search engines and directories based on current industry statistics and trends. Currently we focus primarily on Google, Yahoo and MSN.  These search engine combined drive over 90% of all search traffic to websites.  This list is subject to change based on current market trends.

Q. I rank well in Yahoo, but not in Google. Why?

A. Yahoo and Google (as well as MSN) each use separate algorithms to come up with their search results. Yahoo favors on-page optimization including keyword density and H1 tags, while Google favors off-page optimization such as inbound links.

Q. What is PageRank?

A. Often referred to as "PR," PageRank is Google's representation of how important a page is on the Internet. When one page links to another, it is basically acting as a "vote" for the other page. The more votes for a particular page, the more Google takes notice. Google also takes into account the importance of the page casting the vote.

Q. Can you guarantee a number #1 position in the search engines?

A. Nobody can guarantee a number #1 position or specific ranking for your site for a given keyword phrase. There are simply too many factors beyond anyone's control, the search engines changing their ranking algorithms, efforts made by competitors, and new sites being added to the Web.

Q. How often do I need to submit my website to the Search Engines?

A. There is no need to submit your website to the Search Engines more than one time. Once you are in their database of web pages, resubmitting your web page to the Search Engines again will not help rank your website higher.

Q. What are link farms and why are they bad?

A. Link farms are web pages that contain nothing but links to unrelated sites created for the sole purpose of gaining higher search engine rankings. Link farms have no relevant content and are considered a form of spam. Sites that utilize link farms can get banned from the major search engines. Our Link Building programs obtain relevant inbound links to your site. We acquire them one at a time and they always have a PageRank of 4+.

Q. Do I need to optimize every page on my website?

A. Many people think that just the homepage needs to be optimized, but this is incorrect. Every page in your site has the opportunity to be indexed and therefore every page should be optimized. Each page should be separated into different product or service areas and target different keywords. Our staff can show you ways to obtain high rankings on pages that are deep within your website.

Q. How do I know if my SEO campaign is working?

A. As part of our monthly services, you will be given a Monthly Client SEO Report. This in-depth and informative report will show you how your website is ranking for your targeted keywords. We also provide insight into the traffic that is coming to your site and their movements once they land on any page. You can compare this data with your original baseline report to see the improvements directly related to SEO. Our Client Center is a permanent repository for all reports.

Q. Is Paid Inclusion necessary?

A. It depends on what type of site you have. For some websites, Paid Inclusion is not necessary, but it will speed up the indexing of your site. Search engines can take anywhere from two weeks to eight months to find, index or update your site. With Paid Inclusion, you are guaranteed that the search engines will "spider" your site and include it in their listings within 48 - 72 hours. However, if your site features rapidly changing content, Paid Inclusion is important because it will ensure that your site is continually "refreshed" in the index.
